Terms of Service
Last updated: June 17, 2026
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the PlainSpeech Vault web application (the "Service") operated by PlainSpeech ("us", "we", or "our").
Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.
1. Zero-Knowledge Architecture & User Responsibility
PlainSpeech Vault is a client-side cryptographic tool. All encryption and decryption processes take place on your local device (in your browser) using the native Web Crypto API.
- No Data Transmission: Your master passphrases, keys, unencrypted files, notes, and 2FA credentials are never transmitted to us or any third-party servers. They remain solely on your device.
- No Passphrase Recovery: Because we have no access to your credentials or keys, we cannot reset your passphrase, recover your account, or retrieve your files under any circumstances.
- Absolute User Liability: If you forget your master passphrase, lose your 2FA (TOTP) device, or lose access to your third-party cloud storage accounts, your data will be permanently, cryptographically unrecoverable. You assume full responsibility for making backups of your credentials.
2. Use of Third-Party Cloud Services
The Service connects directly to your own third-party cloud storage providers (specifically Google Drive and/or Apple iCloud) to store your encrypted vaults.
- You must comply with the terms of service and privacy policies of your chosen cloud storage providers when using PlainSpeech Vault.
- We do not control, and are not responsible for, the security, performance, availability, or policies of Google Drive, Apple iCloud, or any other storage platform you choose to authorize.
3. Intellectual Property & License
The Service and its original code, features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of PlainSpeech and its licensors. The application code runs in your browser and is provided for your personal or organizational use under the terms of this license.
4. Disclaimer of Warranty
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AND HEREBY DISCLAIM AND NEGATE ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OR OTHER VIOLATION OF RIGHTS.
Further, we do not warrant or make any representations concerning the accuracy, likely results, or reliability of the use of the materials on the Service or otherwise relating to such materials.
5. Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL PLAINSPEECH, ITS DEVELOPERS, OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF DATA OR PROFIT, OR DUE TO BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED ORALLY OR IN WRITING OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.
6. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will indicate the date of the latest update at the top of this document. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
7. Contact Us
